SSIP covers a range of supplier activities – beyond construction

SSIP member assessment schemes cover a broad range of supply chain activities including, but also way beyond, construction. In fact, around 15% of the 65,000 suppliers shown on the SSIP portal operate in sectors beyond construction such as:

  • facilities management;
  • engineering;
  • manufacturing;
  • transport;
  • outdoor contracting;
  • and many more…

SSIP member schemes use ‘core criteria’ questions to assess the health and safety capability of contractors (core criteria), and of the 14 core criteria questions, only two are specific to construction (Hazard elimination/risk control and Principal Designer duties). For entirely non-construction activity, suppliers are assessed to 12 general criteria, and the two construction-specific criteria do not apply.

This means that buyers can be confident that a supplier who has been successfully assessed by an SSIP member scheme – to the applicable SSIP core criteria – has shown its capability to manage health and safety for the types of activity that it carries out.
