Important Update Regarding Withdrawn SMAS Certificates

Important Update Regarding Withdrawn SMAS Certificates
SSIP has become aware that there remains some confusion regarding certificates issued by SMAS during the period affected by the UKAS accreditation suspension and subsequent SSIP restrictions.
This update is intended to clarify the position for suppliers, buyers and member schemes.

Reassessment Required for Previously Withdrawn Certificates

Certificates issued during the affected period were formally withdrawn and cannot be reinstated simply by issuing a replacement certificate with amended details or a different signatory.

To ensure consistency and maintain confidence in the SSIP process, affected assessments must undergo reassessment before a new SSIP certificate can be issued. This reassessment confirms that suppliers continue to meet the SSIP Core Criteria requirements.

Certificate Validity Corrections

During the reassessment process, a number of replacement certificates were initially issued with validity periods of less than 12 months. These certificates have since been withdrawn and reissued with the correct validity dates.

As a result, some suppliers may have received conflicting information while records were being reviewed and corrected. Where there is any uncertainty, suppliers should refer to the most recent detail available through the SSIP Portal.

Common Assessment Standard (CAS) Certificates

It has also been identified that a number of Common Assessment Standard (CAS) certificates were uploaded to the SSIP Portal in error.

These records do not represent valid SSIP certification and are therefore being removed from the portal. They will not be replaced with SSIP certificates.

Guidance for Suppliers and Buyers

  • Withdrawn certificates should not be relied upon as evidence of SSIP certification.
  • Replacement SSIP certificates can only be issued following a successful reassessment.
  • The most up-to-date certificate available on the SSIP Portal should be treated as the current and valid record.
  • CAS certificates uploaded in error are being removed and should not be regarded as SSIP certification.

Questions or Further Information

We understand that suppliers and buyers may have questions as affected records continue to be reviewed and updated.

If your enquiry relates to an individual SMAS assessment, reassessment, or certificate status, please contact SMAS directly.

For general enquiries regarding SSIP certification, scheme requirements, or the SSIP Portal, please contact SSIP.

To avoid confusion, suppliers and buyers should always refer to the most recent certificate available on the SSIP Portal when verifying certification status.

Thank You

We recognise that these corrections may have caused uncertainty for some suppliers and buyers. We appreciate your patience and understanding while affected records continue to be reviewed and corrected to ensure the integrity and consistency of the SSIP certification process.
