Deem to Satisfy to Mutual Recognition
In 2023 alone, over £10 million in savings were attributed to mutual recognition using the SSIP Deem to Satisfy (DTS) Agreement. This contributed to an overall £70 million in savings achieved by Supplier and Buyers mutually recognising other member schemes in the last year.
Deem to Satisfy (DtS) is the process that allows for suppliers to take advantage of mutual recognition between SSIP member schemes.
If you have been asked to undergo assessment with a clients preferred scheme, and already have approval with another scheme, you can apply to ‘Deem to Satisfy’ with the preferred scheme, without undergoing a full assessment*, leading to time and resource savings.
*Some member schemes may require supplementary information as part of their validation process.
Mutual Recognition is an agreement across all SSIP members, mandating either mutual or non-mutual recognition among all member assessment schemes.
All member schemes listed on the SSIP forum adhere to the SSIP Core Criteria, backed by the Health and Safety Executive.
By mutually recognising each other’s schemes, suppliers benefit from only needing to complete one assessment, while buyers enjoy more efficient procurement processes. This approach reduces costs and has saved over £68 million since 2016.

Two way Deem to Satisfy between SSIP Registered Members
Approval with a Registered Member can only be used to Deem to Satisfy with another Registered Member, it cannot be used to gain a Deem to Satisfy with a Certification Body Member.

One way deem to satisfy with any SSIP Registered Member
Approval with a Certification Body Member can only be used to Deem to Satisfy with a Registered Member, (this is subject to confirmation of surveillance visits/ compliance dates being displayed correctly on the SSIP Portal) it cannot be used to gain a Deem to Satisfy with another Certification Body Member.
